ABBEVILLE — Funeral services will be held Monday, February 29, 2016 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Fadra Theall David, 95, who died peacefully at home at the age of 95 on February 25, 2016.
She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery. Father Louis J. Richard will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Concelebrant will be Fr. Michael Delcambre (who ministered to her in her final years), a friend of the family. Pallbearers will be Tyron David Picard, Mark Layne Picard, Roland “Rip” Eveland, Rob Eveland, Jimmy Theall, Dwayne David. Honorary pallbearers include Jim Theall (brother), nephews Donald Theall, David Theall, Daniel Theall, Daniel Detraz, Douglas Theall, Joe Oliver, and Glynn Hebert. Eulogy will be given by her grandson, Tyron D. Picard. Lectors for the mass will be Elizabeth Picard and William Andrew “Drew” Picard. Gift bearers will be Stephanie Picard, Madeline Picard, John Wright Picard and Brier Eveland. Following the service and burial, a reception for friends and family will be held at Magdalen Place Reception Center, across from the church.
Fadra was devoted to her family. Her greatest joy was preparing Sunday lunch or a holiday meal for a house full of her family members, often serving second helpings to others before ever serving herself! That was a continuous theme in all aspects of her life. Fadra faithfully served her Lord and always put others before herself. When her husband died at the age of 53 in 1975, Fadra moved to Maurice with her daughter, Gaylen and son in law, Cecil. She was instrumental in raising her grandchildren Tyron, Layne, and Rob, as well as great grandchildren, Stephanie, Madeline, Drew and John providing them as well as her many nieces and nephews with unconditional love, support, guidance. Most of all, she was a model example of humility, and grace. Her love and enjoyment of cooking for and hosting others has been passed on to her daughters and grandsons.
She is survived by her two daughters, Gaylen Picard of Lafayette, as well as Bernice “Bonnie” Eveland and her husband Roland “Rip” Eveland of Lafayette; Grandson Tyron D. Picard, and wife Elizabeth, Great grandsons Drew and John Picard of Lafayette, survive her. Grandson Mark Layne Picard and great granddaughters Stephanie Picard and Madeline Picard of Abbeville, Grandson, Rob Eveland and wife Brier of Baton Rouge, and a great great grandson Westin James Baudoin, of Maurice. She is also survived by one brother, James Ory Theall, and his wife Lorraine of Longmont, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Azar David, her parents Leodis and Editha Theall, a sister, Bernice Detraz, brothers Purvis Theall and Aswell Theall, and her beloved son in law, Cecil James Picard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 p.m.; Monday, February 29, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. when the proceesion will depart for the church.
The family wishes to extend a special expression of gratitude to her caregivers, Dr. Steve Salopek, AAA Hospice particularly Dorothy Hammond and Cindy Darby; Synergy Homehealth particularly Linda Theriot; her caregivers, Velma Washington, Roselyn Glover, Gail Celestine, Patricia and Lawrence Celestine, Dora Armstrong, who cared for her in her final months.
